Sustainability, Modularity and Interaction: The National Film Archive Has New Offices
10.4.2024
After relocating from Žižkov at the end of last year, the National Film Archive has settled into its new home in Nusle. It will remain there until the former Žižkov Freight Station undergoes revitalization. In close collaboration with the Schwestern architectural studio, Profil Nábytek created an attractive and functional workspace for the employees in a building near the Botič stream, just across from the Na Fidlovačce Theatre. The uniqueness and design of the new interiors lie in their future adaptability—they can be relocated and reused according to changing needs and spatial conditions.

Wooden shelving units with traditional joinery—assembled without a single screw—highly functional solid wood tables for up to six people, and rebar chairs form the core of the TAK furniture line, designed for Profil Nábytek by the Schwestern studio. This environmentally friendly furniture, combining durability and elegance, was fully utilized by the sister duo Monika Cihlářová and Iveta Šalamounová in designing the interiors of the National Film Archive (NFA) offices.
"The requirement was to create an attractive workspace with high-quality, freestanding furniture that can be relocated from these temporary premises in the future. Most of the NFA offices are located on the third floor and follow an open-office concept, so the main focus was on visually dividing the space," explains Monika Cihlářová.

Furniture for All the Senses
The office spaces are completed by several meeting rooms of varying sizes, each furnished with a TAK conference table—sometimes separated only by glass. “The TAK tables are designed as a central element of the office space, a place where people meet, negotiate, work, relax, and socialize. They reflect the dynamic and creative nature of today’s offices,” explains Iveta Šalamounová. The highly functional and structurally stable table offers ample depth for both a laptop and a lunch tray. Carefully crafted details and the choice of materials allow users to experience its quality not only visually but also through touch.
“Each era brings its own perspective on user comfort in the workplace. Today, when most communication happens online, it’s essential to keep pace with new technologies. Yet the TAK collection also looks back, encouraging natural interactions and collective engagement,” says Šalamounová, who designed the TAK furniture line for Profil. Both members of the Schwestern studio are daughters of one of Profil Nábytek’s co-founders and co-owners, František Čermák.
“Trends come and go in waves. We build on solid carpentry foundations and timeless materials. We combine traditional joinery with proven technologies and place great emphasis on high-quality craftsmanship,” adds Čermák, a former cabinetmaker himself.

Sustainability is not just a buzzword in this project. All the furniture is fully modular and can be reused in other spaces where the NFA will be relocating in the future.
